Seventeenth-century Flemish tapestries originated in the Low Countries, which were renowned as the premier centre of European textile weaving, producing intricate figurative and landscape panels for elite interiors.

These tapestries were traditionally handwoven on vertical or horizontal looms using a warp of strong linen or cotton and a weft of dyed wool and silk yarns, occasionally incorporating metallic threads of gold or silver.

Authenticity is determined by examining the hand-spun natural dye consistency, the weave density, the reverse side knotting technique, and the stylistic characteristics typical of seventeenth-century European textile workshops.

A large textile hanging can be mounted on a concealed wall batten or suspended from a decorative iron rod, serving as a textural focal point in a neutral room to balance modern minimalism with historical depth.

Preservation requires hanging the textile away from direct sunlight to prevent dye fading, avoiding direct weight tension by using a full-width support lining, and periodically vacuuming gently through a protective mesh screen.
