Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French provincial furniture emerged during the 18th century as regional craftsmen in areas like Provence and Normandy interpreted fashionable Parisian court styles using locally available timbers and often finished them with painted or distemper coatings.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid regional hardwoods such as oak, fruitwood, or pine, joined with traditional pegged mortise and tenon techniques, and finished with layered hand-mixed paints that developed a characteristic patina over time.

Authenticity is evaluated through examining tool marks, hand- forged iron or wooden fixings, natural shrinkage cracks, authentic wear patterns around frequently touched areas, and the composition of the layered historical paint finishes.

Such a piece serves as a focal point in contemporary spaces by introducing organic texture, historical contrast, and muted colour, working effectively against neutral walls or paired with minimalist modern seating.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent paint fading, dusting with a soft dry cloth, and refraining from using modern chemical solvents or abrasive cleaners.
