Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Blue and white porcelain originated in China during the Tang dynasty, reaching high levels of technical refinement during the Ming and Qing dynasties. These small jars were historically used to store tea, spices, or ginger, and became highly sought-after export decorative goods globally.

Traditional Chinese porcelain is made from fine kaolin clay mixed with petuntse (china stone) and fired at high temperatures. The blue decoration is hand-painted directly onto the unfired body using cobalt oxide pigment, which is then covered with a clear glaze before a single high-temperature firing.

Authentic period pieces display hand-brushed cobalt pigment with natural variations in tone, slight imperfections such as iron specks or glaze pinholes, and smooth wear along the unglazed foot rim. The weight, glaze clarity, and execution of motifs like landscapes or flora also offer key clues.

Style blue and white ceramics by placing them on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or within a curated bookshelf arrangement. They integrate seamlessly alongside rich timber tones, contemporary neutral colour palettes, and tailored textile furnishings.

Wash the porcelain gently using warm water and a mild detergent with a microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or abrasive sponges. Ensure unglazed foot rims dry completely, and position the jar away from traffic paths where it could be knocked over.
