This 19th-century half-hull ship model originates from the Liverpool Ship Building Company and dates to 1852. The wooden object is mounted on a rectangular black backboard and depicts ship number 21, measuring 175 ft in length with 1863 tons. The carved wooden hull is finished in black and terracotta paint with red trim along the gunwale, accented by hand-lettered technical specifications, section numbers, rivet details, and mould dimensions inscribed across the body in white and gold lettering. A small red plaque is positioned on the right side of the hull. Natural signs of age appear as minor surface wear and fading on the painted markings. Measuring 24 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 10 cm deep, the piece functions well as a display object in a gentleman's library or study. It suits placement above a sideboard or desk to introduce a Victorian maritime aesthetic to an interior space.

Half-hull models were constructed by naval architects and shipwrights during the 18th and 19th centuries to design a vessels hull shape and calculate its dimensions prior to full-scale construction.

Most historical half-hull models were hand-carved from seasoned timber such as pine, oak, or mahogany, mounted onto solid wooden backboards, and finished with paint or varnish.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved tool markings, original wooden backboards, period-correct painted finishes, natural wood shrinkage, and hand-lettered technical inscriptions or shipyard markings.

Mount the plaque centrally above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or office desk to serve as a focal point that adds maritime heritage to contemporary or traditional spaces.

Display the model away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to protect the paint and timber, and clean gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or dry brush without liquid detergents.
