Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carved wooden platters, traditionally known as parats or dough troughs, were produced across northern India for preparing chapati dough and serving food. Crafted from indigenous dense hardwoods such as Shisham, these functional domestic utensils were designed for heavy daily use within rural households.

These vessels were typically carved from a single block of Shisham wood, also known as Indian Rosewood, which was favoured for its durability and dense grain. Historical repairs often incorporated hand-forged iron staples or recessed metal brackets to secure natural splits in the timber.

Authentic period examples exhibit irregular hand-carved gauge marks, asymmetry, and a dark patina created through prolonged handling and oil exposure. Look for hand-forged iron butterfly or bar staples used to mend historic structural checks along the wood grain.

A large carved platter can be mounted on a wall using a hidden plate hanger to function as architectural wall art. Alternatively, place it flat on a kitchen island or dining table as a shallow vessel for organic displays or as a focal point on a sideboard.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and keep the object away from direct heat sources to prevent further shrinkage. Apply a clear beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the wood moisture and retain the existing patina without altering the colour.
