Cricket tables originated in Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries, traditionally featuring three legs which provided stability on uneven flagstone floors in cottages and farmhouses.

These tables are typically constructed from native British timbers such as sycamore, oak, or ash, utilising pegged joints, tapered legs, and often a triangular undertier or stretcher shelf for added structural support.

Authenticity is identified by examining tool marks, hand-carved joints, natural timber shrinkage, period-appropriate fixings, and historical patina developed through centuries of use.

A cricket table works well as a versatile accent piece, serving as a bedside table, an end of sofa stand, or a display surface for ceramics and plants in a rustic or transitional scheme.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent splitting, cleaning only with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the finish.
