French terracotta oil jugs were utilitarian vessels produced across rural regions of France for storing and dispensing locally produced oils, such as walnut or olive oil. Crafted by village potters, these durable earthenware containers were designed for everyday farmstead use throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
