For Sale by TJR Trading
Description

This is a German Dresden porcelain cache pot. It dates from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.

It has twin scrolling handles, two pictorial reserves in puce, and a yellow ground. One of the reserves is decorated with an 18th century couple in a garden. The other reserve is decorated with a floral spray. There is gilded decoration.

It has a blue 'Dresden' mark to the underside.

It would have originally had a lid which is no longer present. There are some red marks to the interior which appear to be manufacturing faults. Apart from this there are no signs of any cracks, chips or restoration.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Dresden porcelain cache pot is a decorative ceramic vessel produced in or near Dresden, Germany, designed to conceal plain earthenware or terracotta flowerpots. Originating in the 18th and 19th centuries, these pieces frequently incorporate ornate gilding, vibrant ground colours, and hand-painted pastoral or floral panels styled after Rococo traditions.

Dresden porcelain vessels were constructed from hard-paste porcelain, fired at elevated temperatures to produce a dense white ceramic body. Artisans applied coloured glazes, enamel paints, and gold leaf gilding by hand, often shaping functional side handles and raised Rococo scrollwork during the initial moulding phase.

Authentic pieces feature individual brushstrokes visible under magnification rather than printed transfer lines. They typically bear maker marks on the unglazed base, such as crossed swords, crowns, or decorator initials, alongside hand-applied gilding along rims and handles.

A porcelain cache pot functions as a tabletop container on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table. It can hold potted plants such as orchids and ferns, or serve as an unplanted accent piece within traditional and eclectic decorative schemes.

Clean the surface gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a slightly dampened microfibre cloth with lukewarm water. Avoid chemical solvents, abrasive polishes, or submersing the vessel in water, as liquid exposure and friction cause wear to overglaze enamel and surface gilding.
