Curious Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Most likely from central India and the area known as the Deccan plateau, the Soonta would have been carried by an attendant as part of the regalia of an Indian Maharaja. The 'Soonta berdar' was a high ranking member of the court and would have walked close to the Maharaja and held the Soonta aloft.

It is in good condition with no obvious issues and the bronze has taken on great colour/patina following many years of handling. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me if you would like to view the item or have any questions.
