Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

French carved oak desks trace their origins to traditional cabinet-making ateliers in France, where local artisans utilised durable regional hardwoods to create functional writing furniture characterised by regional motifs and cabriole legs.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid European oak, featuring traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon, hand-carved decorative flourishes, and fitted drawers assembled with dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, hand-cut joinery, uniform oxidisation of the timber, and authentic forged hardware rather than modern fixings.

A bleached oak desk serves as a focal point in a contemporary study or living space, pairing effectively with minimalist seating and neutral textiles to balance historical texture with modern lines.

Preservation involves maintaining stable ambient humidity, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber splitting, and cleaning periodically with a dry cloth or specialist beeswax.
