Chinese Imari refers to porcelain manufactured in China during the Qing dynasty, specifically for export, replicating the distinctive blue, iron-red, and gilt colour palette originally developed in Imari, Japan.

These pieces were crafted from hard-paste porcelain clay, painted underglaze in cobalt blue and overglaze in iron-red enamels, often accented with gold leaf, then fired in a high-temperature kiln.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-thrown potting irregularities, foot rings with characteristic grit or wear, hand-painted details with depth of colour, and natural glaze imperfections consistent with period kilns.

An antique bowl can be displayed centrally on a dining table or credenza as a focal point, pairing its rich red and blue tones with neutral textures to bridge historical craftsmanship with contemporary spaces.

Antique porcelain should be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water using mild detergent when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, and direct placement in strong sunlight to protect overglaze enamels.
