This antique biscuit barrel dates from 1880 in the Neoclassical style. Made from cobalt blue stoneware Jasperware, the body displays white sprigged relief figures in classical scenes set below a molded oak leaf garland border. A brass lid with a central round finial fits the top, secured by an attached brass swing handle. The barrel measures 20 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 15 cm deep. Placed on a sideboard top in an English country house interior, this piece serves as a decorative storage container for biscuits or dry goods. The contrasting white cameo decoration stands out against the matte blue ground, while the metallic hardware provides functional handling capability for everyday use.

Jasperware is a type of stoneware ceramic developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, noted for its unglazed matte finish and relief decorations depicting classical imagery.

These barrels feature a coloured stoneware vessel adorned with sprigged white earthenware relief motifs, paired with metal fittings such as a lid, rim collar, and swing handle.

Authentic pieces usually feature impressed marks on the underside, such as WEDGWOOD, alongside sharp detail on the white sprigged reliefs and precise metal mounts.

Place the barrel on a kitchen island, dining sideboard, or open shelving to introduce historical texture and classic colour contrast within a contemporary setting.

Clean the ceramic body gently using warm water and mild soap with a soft brush, ensuring metal components are wiped dry immediately to prevent tarnishing or oxidisation.
