FAQs

Regency card tables gained popularity in early 19th-century Britain during the Regency era, reflecting a fashionable society deeply engaged in parlour games and entertaining at home.

These tables were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like rosewood or mahogany, often featuring finely figured veneer, brass inlay, or ormolu mounts, supported by pedestal bases with brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-turned pedestals, genuine brass castors with patination, and high-grade timber construction without modern synthetic adhesives.

Position the table against a living room or hallway wall in its folded position, perhaps topped with a ceramic lamp or decorative bowl, utilizing its rich grain to add warmth to modern schemes.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels, keep the timber out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and periodically nourish the wood with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
