This George III style card table dates from 1880 and takes a demilune shape with a warm brown mahogany timber finish. Satinwood stringing inlays outline the semi-circular top and apron, complemented by boxwood details and oval patera inlays above the slender tapered legs. The timber displays rich warm brown tones with visible grain variation along the polished top surface. Measuring 71 cm high, 89 cm wide, and 35 cm deep, the table fits compact proportions suitable for various interior settings. In a contemporary home, this piece suits placement against a narrow wall space in a lounge or dining room. The top opens to reveal a green baise playing surface, allowing dual functionality as a game table or an occasional surface to hold a decorative lamp when closed. The compact depth ensures it integrates easily into hallways, reception rooms, or side spaces while maintaining traditional English country house character.

Demilune card tables gained widespread popularity during the 18th century, particularly within Georgian and Neoclassical design movements. Designed to rest flush against a wall when folded, they provided versatile seating options for social card games when unfolded.

Traditional construction relies on solid or veneered mahogany, precise hand-cut dovetail joinery, and decorative wood inlays such as satinwood or boxwood stringing. The fold-over top is supported by a gate-leg or rear swing-leg mechanism.

Authentic pieces feature tapered square legs or turned legs, original brass or wooden hinges on the fold-over top, natural patination on the timber underside, and unrefined hand-planed secondary woods like pine or oak inside the interior frame.

A semi-circular table works as an entry hall console or placed along a narrow corridor to display decorative ceramics or books, bridging historic timber tones with minimalist wall paint.

Maintain polished mahogany by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and high humidity variations.
