A loo table is a type of large occasional or centre table that originated in the 18th century and remained popular through the Victorian era, designed specifically for playing the card game loo.

These tables typically feature solid timber frames with dense veneers such as burr walnut or mahogany applied to the top surface, supported by a central pillar and carved cabriole legs, often incorporating a tilting mechanism with a brass catch.

Authentic pieces generally show period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional wood shrinkage patterns, old patina on the timber, and original metal hardware or ceramic castors.

A loo table works effectively as a focal point in a large entrance hall or as a library table, paired with modern minimalist seating to create a striking contrast between old and new design eras.

Maintain antique walnut by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive humidity changes, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the wood finish.
