A chapan is a traditional long-sleeved robe worn across Central Asia, notably in Uzbekistan, featuring layered quilting or rich patterned fabrics historically used for warmth and social distinction.

These garments were traditionally constructed from hand-woven silk or cotton, frequently utilizing complex brocade, ikat, or embroidery techniques dyed with natural pigments.

Authenticity is determined by examining the hand-spun thread characteristics, natural dye oxidisation, traditional loom widths, and the integrity of the hand-stitched lining.

Historic garments are frequently mounted behind UV-protective conservation glass or displayed on bespoke mannequin stands as focal wall art in study or living spaces.

Preservation requires storing or displaying items away from direct sunlight, maintaining stable relative humidity, and avoiding chemical cleaners or plastic garment bags.
