This 19th-century French Empire style bijouterie display table is manufactured from mahogany with gilt metal mounts and glass panels, finished in a rich mahogany brown with gilded accents and a reddish-orange velvet lining. The rectangular cabinet features a glazed, hinged lift-up top, glazed sides, gilt metal swag decoration, beaded glazing surrounds, and vertical fluted detailing on the corners. It stands on four slender, fluted and tapering legs with gilt metal collars and feet, and includes a lock with a hanging tassel. The table measures 76.7 cm high, 73.1 cm wide, and 51.3 cm deep. Positioned in an empty corner, the table serves as a functional display cabinet for jewellery, watches, miniature works of art, and other treasured collectables. The interior velvet lining shows visible fading, impressions, and wear, while the exterior exhibits age-related surface marks consistent with its period use.

A bijouterie table, also known as a vitrine table, is a specialised display table designed in 18th and 19th-century Europe to securely showcase small valuables, jewellery, and curiosities under a glass top.

These tables were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, featuring glass side panels, fabric or velvet interior linings, and carved gilt-wood or gilt-bronze decorative trim.

Authentic French Empire pieces feature Neoclassical architectural proportions, fluted or columnar legs, gilt accents, period-correct brass hardware, and hand-cut joinery inside the framework.

Position the piece in a drawing room alcove, wide hallway, or window bay to serve as an accent table, using the interior compartment to exhibit small collections, vintage pocket watches, or natural specimens.

Dust the timber with a dry microfibre cloth, clean the glass with specialized non-ammonia cleaner, and keep the table away from direct sunlight and radiators to preserve the wood finish and fabric lining.
