This 1880 stick stand from Doulton Lambeth is produced in stoneware with a glazed finish. The cylindrical body has a mottled blue-grey ground, complemented by a brown circular base and top. Decoration includes cream and brown relief floral motifs, scroll details, and a flared rim. Miss L Waters stamped the base with the initials L.W. The piece measures 60 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 31 cm deep. Place this item beside the front door to hold walking sticks and umbrellas in a hallway or entrance area. The ceramic construction and English country house design style suit traditional or period interiors as a practical storage accessory.

Produced in London during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Doulton Lambeth stoneware pieces were manufactured using durable high-fired ceramic decorated with relief motifs and mottled salt glazes under the influence of the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements.

These items are crafted from dense clay thrown on a wheel or cast in sections, decorated using techniques such as relief moulding, incising, and tubelined enamels, before being fired with salt or lead glazes to create a waterproof finish.

Authentic examples feature impressed factory backstamps on the underside, often accompanied by date letters, pattern numbers, and incised monograms or initials of the individual artist or assistant who decorated the piece.

A stoneware stick stand serves as a functional accents near entryways, porches, or hallways, providing textural contrast against painted plaster or timber panelling while holding walking sticks, umbrellas, or dried botanical stems.

Maintain stoneware by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and wiping with a warm, slightly damp sponge to remove surface dirt, avoiding harsh chemical solvents, abrasive pads, or exposure to freezing temperatures which may cause cracking.
