This Queen Anne side table dates from the 18th century and is made from dark brown elm with brass hardware. The well-figured top sits above one long drawer and two short drawers, all retaining their original brass drop handles. Below the drawers sits a scalloped apron, supported by turned legs joined by cross stretchers. Visible details include an old repair to the bottom left side of the long drawer, another small repair on the corner of the right drawer, and a slight inward curve at the bottom of the left front leg. The piece measures 69 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. In a modern interior, this English country house table suits placement beside the front door as a convenient drop-off surface for everyday items. Its compact scale also permits use as a side table in a living room, hallway, or study.

Originating in the early eighteenth century during the reign of Queen Anne, this furniture style emphasises refined proportions, turned or cabriole legs, simple understated lines, and minimal surface ornamentation compared to earlier Baroque designs.

English cabinetmakers favoured native hardwoods such as elm, walnut, and oak. Key construction features include hand-dovetailed drawer joints, turned wood legs, cross-stretchers for stability, and brass drop handles.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-sawn timber, irregular wood grain, peg construction, and historical wear on the stretchers where feet rested. Authentic brass hardware often displays natural patination and surface oxidisation.

These compact tables function effectively as hallway console surfaces, bedside tables, or lamp stands in living rooms. Position them against a plain wall to highlight the silhouette of the turned legs and scalloped apron.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood finish. Keep the item away from direct radiators or central heating vents to prevent the timber from warping or splitting.
