Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French Country water vessel is a wall-mounted rain catcher made from hand-made copper and brass. The warm copper body has a flared rim, a robust arched handle, a horizontal rope-twist band around the waist, and a lower brass spigot. Behind the vessel sits a decorative scalloped backplate, and the piece shows areas of patina and slight surface wear. The tap requires some attention. In a modern home, this heavy piece suits narrow wall spaces in a kitchen or utility area, functioning as an authentic decorative wall reservoir or rustic feature. It brings traditional French chateau character to an interior.

FAQs

A lavabo is a traditional European water vessel, historically wall-mounted in homes or garden courtyards to store water for washing prior to the advent of piped plumbing.

These reservoirs were typically hand-crafted from copper or brass, featuring soldered seam joints, cast metal taps, and decorative backplates designed for mounting onto masonry or timber.

Authentic period examples display hand-hammered surface irregularities, visible lead or tin solder seams, natural verdigris patination, and original brass spigots.

A metal water reservoir can be mounted on a feature wall, integrated into a courtyard garden scheme, or styled as a planter for trailing greenery.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid abrasive chemical polishes that remove natural patination; apply microcrystalline wax sparingly to protect the metal surface.
