Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French chateau style ciel de lit bed canopy corona takes the form of a shaped wooden architectural ceiling fixture designed to mount above the bed. The body consists of rich brown mahogany finished with a smooth sheen, detailed with a carved beaded moulding along the upper serpentine contour edge. The underside holds a padded ruby red button-tufted velvet textile, finished along the perimeter with a narrow white ruffled textile trim. Practical measurements span 122 cm long by 74 cm deep and 13 cm high. Home placement works directly above a bedroom sleeping area as a traditional decorative overhead wall fixture, bringing period character to a modern interior design.

FAQs

A ciel de lit, or bed corona, is a wall-mounted ornamental canopy frame designed to suspend drapery over the head of a bed, originating in 18th and 19th-century French bedroom design.

These architectural pieces were typically constructed from carved hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, featuring upholstered undersides lined in silk or velvet with decorative gimp or ruffling.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-carved mouldings, traditional joinery methods, original fixing brackets on the flat rear edge, and hand-tufted upholstery with natural horsehair or straw filling.

Mount the canopy centred above a headboard and drape lightweight linen, silk, or sheer cotton fabric over the sides to add vertical height and classic architectural interest to a modern bedroom.

Dust the wooden framework regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically, while gently vacuuming the velvet upholstery using a soft brush attachment to prevent dust accumulation.
