This Arts and Crafts style coat stand originates from 1950. Constructed from warm brown oak and iron, the architectural frame displays four square tapered uprights, double metal hooks at the top, an integrated drip tray at the base, and a square frame structure. The piece measures 184 cm high, 43.5 cm wide, and 43.5 cm deep. Suitably sized for practical placement beside the front door, this hall stand provides an organized solution for outerwear and umbrellas in an entrance hall. The surface shows a soft, authentic patina with a hand-waxed finish over mellow timber, highlighting its historic character and utility for daily use in a hallway.

A hall tree is a tall piece of furniture designed to hold coats, hats, and umbrellas, which gained widespread popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Placed in entryways, these stands allowed residents and guests to store outerwear conveniently upon entering a home.

Traditional hall stands were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, using mortise and tenon joinery for structural stability. Hooks were commonly forged from iron or cast in brass, while removable metal drip trays were incorporated at the base to collect water from wet umbrellas.

Authentic period coat stands exhibit natural wear on the wooden uprights, period-appropriate patinated metal hooks, and slotted screw fittings. Examining the frame joints for hand-cut mortise construction and the base for an original fitted drip tray helps confirm age and authenticity.

In modern interiors, an oak coat stand functions as a practical focal point in an entryway, hallway, or boot room. Combining the natural timber tones with neutral wall palettes and clean architectural lines creates a balance between historic structure and contemporary simplicity.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax periodically to maintain the wood finish. Ensure the metal drip tray is wiped dry promptly after contact with damp umbrellas to prevent moisture damage to the timber base.
