Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 1900s French farmhouse dining table follows a rustic style, constructed from solid oak with a bleached natural finish. The design incorporates a long rectangular plank top resting on shaped upright supports connected by a pegged central stretcher and standing on flat feet, displaying a pale timber colour throughout. The practical dimensions measure 80 cm high, 300 cm wide, and 99 cm deep. Suitable for everyday dining or large gatherings, this piece fits comfortably into a spacious kitchen or dining room. The removable construction allows for straightforward placement within the home, providing a sturdy surface for family meals and entertaining guests.

FAQs

A refectory or trestle table is a long, narrow dining table originally designed during the Middle Ages for communal dining in monasteries and Great Halls, featuring a top supported by trestle ends connected by a central stretcher.

Traditional farmhouse dining tables are constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak or elm, utilising mortise and tenon joinery, pegged timber joints, and central stretchers to ensure structural stability.

Authentic pieces display hand-worked timber surfaces, pegged joinery rather than modern mechanical fasteners, natural timber movement over time, and foot-rest wear along the central stretcher base.

Pair a large solid oak table with contemporary upholstered chairs or minimal timber benches to create a balanced contrast between rustic texture and clean modern lines in an open-plan dining space.

Maintain solid oak by applying clear beeswax or hardwax oil periodically, clearing liquid spills immediately, and positioning the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
