This folk art antique Grodnertal doll from the turn of the twentieth century originates as a hand-carved wooden peg toy. The piece comprises a single-piece wooden body with a painted head, jointed arms, and jointed legs, displaying visible wear to the natural timber surfaces. The doll wears a fabric dress featuring white embroidery with openwork eyelet details, layered with an orange-brown textile band and a beige lace shawl across the shoulders. The painted facial features include dark hair, blue eyes, and red lips on a pale complexion. It measures 30 cm high by 8 cm wide. Historically used by children to practise sewing skills by making garments, today the doll suits display on a dresser, shelf, or tabletop within a living room, bedroom, or hallway. The construction showcases traditional woodworking techniques typical of early European folk dolls, preserved in an authentic antique condition. Collectors of folk art and antique toys appreciate the handmade character and period textiles that complete the figure.
