Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Regency pair of barrel-shaped garden seats is formed from ironstone ceramic with an enamel finish in red, blue, and gold. The exterior displays a vibrant red and blue cloud pattern background interspersed with multiple circular figural cartouches depicting Chinoiserie scenes, complemented by pierced handholds on the top surface. The construction incorporates raised ribs around the body and a faceted octagonal profile. Each seat measures 28x28x48 cm. Placement suits an empty corner in an indoor or outdoor living space, functioning as a decorative accent or a casual seat. The heavy ceramic structure supports placement on patios, conservatories, or garden rooms.

FAQs

Clobbering refers to the practice of taking previously decorated ceramic pieces, often blue-and-white porcelain or ironstone, and applying additional brightly coloured enamels over the original glaze to update their appearance or meet changing market demands.

These items were manufactured from dense, vitreous earthenware known as ironstone china, which was fired at high temperatures and finished with lead glazes and overglaze enamel pigments.

Authentic early 19th-century pieces feature substantial physical weight, hand-applied overglaze enameling with visible texture or slight wear, pierced handholds, and distinct manufacturing marks or foot-rim characteristics typical of the period.

Garden seats function effectively as occasional side tables beside armchairs, as sculptural display stands in empty corners, or as decorative features within sunrooms and conservatories.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and clean using mild water and non-abrasive detergent, avoiding harsh chemicals, soaking, or abrasive scrubbers that could lift delicate overglaze enamels.
