Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Cast crest finial and knurled thumbscrews: fittings standard on early twentieth-century stands.
Plated tubular stem with brass collars: interwar retail metalwork.
Solid beech hanger with shaped profile: original tailoring show woodwork.
Weighted circular base with beaded rim: classic period construction for garment stands.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A gentlemans valet stand, historically termed a silent servant, is a dedicated piece of freestanding furniture designed to hang suit jackets, trousers, and ties to maintain their shape and presentation.

Mid-twentieth-century valet stands frequently combine tubular chrome, nickel, or brass-plated metal columns with contoured solid hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or mahogany for the shoulder hanger.

Authentic period examples feature weighted metal or cast iron bases for stability, original threaded screw joints, genuine solid timber hangers, and natural surface wear or oxidisation on metal surfaces.

Position a valet stand in a bedroom corner, dressing area, or hallway to display structured coats, scarves, or tailored garments while adding a functional architectural element to the room.

Clean chrome columns with a dry microfibre cloth and a specialised metal polish to clear surface tarnish, while wiping wooden components with a lightly damp cloth and applying beeswax polish to preserve the grain.
