Sandstone tether blocks were historically used in rural France to secure horses, livestock, or boats, often positioned outside farmhouses, courtyards, or along waterways.

These utility pieces are traditionally constructed from locally quarried regional stone, such as sandstone or limestone, fitted with hand-forged wrought iron rings.

Authentication relies on examining tool marks, mineral weathering, natural patination of the stone, and the hand-forged characteristics of the iron ring.

Such architectural elements can be utilised as sculptural plinths, doorstops, or rustic garden focal points to add historical texture to minimalist spaces.

Preservation generally involves gentle brushing with water to remove debris while retaining the beneficial organic lichens, mosses, and patination.
