The Regency style flourished in Britain during the early 19th century, characterised by classical proportions, inspired by ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian forms, and often featuring dark exotic woods like rosewood and mahogany.

Cabinet makers during the Regency period primarily utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, frequently incorporating brass inlay, gilt bronze mounts, and fine veneer techniques over secondary pine or oak carcases.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage, original brass castors, and patination consistent with age, rather than modern mechanical fixings.

A Regency side table adds architectural gravitas to contemporary spaces; place it beside a minimalist sofa or use it as an accent piece to introduce historical texture and rich wood tones into a neutral room.

Protect antique rosewood from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent timber splitting, and clean only with a soft, dry cloth, occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
