This Victorian rosewood work table, dating from 1860, is an octagonal trumpet-shaped piece made from dark brown timber with contrasting boxwood floral marquetry inlay, finished with a brass drop ring handle. The hinged lid with a moulded edge opens to reveal a compartment, set above a tapering hexagonal body and supported by three curved cabriole legs with scroll feet, complemented by small turned finials hanging beneath the top edge. The table stands 73 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 42 cm deep. It functions well today as a decorative accent table in an empty corner of a living room, hallway, or study, providing both a surface and enclosed storage space for small items.

A Victorian trumpet work table is a specialised piece of accent furniture designed in the 19th century, featuring a conical tapered body on a central column, traditionally used to store sewing and needlework supplies under a hinged lid.

These tables were commonly crafted from high-quality hardwoods such as rosewood, walnut, or mahogany, often decorated with floral marquetry or parquetry inlays and detailed turned wooden finials.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually feature hand-carved tripod legs, original brass hardware, octagonal or round hinged lids, and natural age-related patination within the interior storage well.

Position the piece as an accent side table beside an armchair, in a reading nook, or within a bay window to showcase its decorative marquetry and distinct silhouette.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish occasionally, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or fading.
