This Scottish Regency dining table dates from the 1820s and is attributed to the maker Morison of Ayr. Formed from dark brown mahogany, the piece has a rectangular top over a single frieze end drawer fitted with two small turned dark wooden knobs. The legs are crisply turned with distinctive honey pot decoration, terminating in small brass castors. Surface wear includes a minor historic split adjacent to one edge, marks to the top, and losses to the hardware handles. Structurally robust, the table measures 74.5 cm high, 106 cm wide, and 104 cm deep. In a modern home, this versatile table functions well as a compact dining table, a desk in a study, or a side table in a living room or hallway. The proportions suit smaller dining spaces or multi-use rooms where space is at a premium. The dark timber tone and traditional Regency details integrate easily into both period interiors and rooms with mixed antique furnishings.

Regency period dining tables, originating in Britain between 1811 and 1830, are defined by classical symmetry, simple proportions, and fine cabinetmaking techniques using high-grade imported mahogany.

Tables from the 1820s were constructed primarily from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring oak or pine as secondary timber, paired with hand-cast brass hardware and castors.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-carved turned legs, hand-dovetailed joinery inside drawers, natural oxidisation on brass components, and period-appropriate wear to the timber finish.

A Regency dining table functions well when paired with contemporary seating, minimal decorative accents, or set against neutral wall palettes to create balanced contrast.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying natural beeswax twice yearly, keeping the piece away from direct radiator heat and moisture.
