The George I style, spanning the early 18th century, is characterised by architectural proportions, the widespread adoption of walnut as a primary timber, and the introduction of graceful cabriole legs replacing earlier rigid forms.

These tables typically feature solid walnut or walnut veneers applied to secondary woods like oak or pine, utilising hand-cut dovetails, tenon joints, and specialised wooden hinges or swing legs to support the folding top.

Authenticity is assessed through original surface patination, timber shrinkage patterns, hand-forged iron or brass fixings, and traditional construction techniques consistent with early 18th-century cabinet making.

An antique walnut card table functions effectively as a versatile console or occasional surface in a living room or hallway, providing historical contrast against contemporary neutral walls and minimalist decor.

Maintain antique walnut furniture by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding extreme humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying traditional beeswax to nourish and protect the aged timber surface.
