Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early twentieth-century Japanese flower basket from the Taisho period takes the form of a tall, upright, square container made from bamboo and rattan with a dark patinated brown finish. The piece shows a high arched handle at the top, a square plaited body, tightly bound rattan lashings along the corners and rim, and an inner cylindrical liner visible through the open mouth. The entire object measures 39 cm high, 7 cm wide, and 4.5 cm deep. Homeowners can place this decorative basket on a sideboard top in a sunlit conservatory to hold fresh stems or dried arrangements. The traditional design and rich patinated surface integrate smoothly into rustic, botanical, or minimalist interior schemes.

FAQs

A hanakago is a traditional Japanese woven bamboo vessel specifically crafted to display floral arrangements for ikebana and tea ceremony settings.

These vessels are crafted from split bamboo strips woven into complex plaiting patterns, reinforced with rattan lashings and fitted with a bamboo or wood cylinder insert to contain water.

Authentic pieces display natural patination from age, fine hand-woven construction with detailed knotting at structural joints, and sometimes feature an incised artist signature on the base or handle.

Positioned on a sideboard, console table, or open shelf, these vessels serve as standalone sculptural forms or can be styled with minimal dried botanical stems.

Keep the vessel away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity, dust gently using a soft dry brush, and avoid soaking the outer woven bamboo frame in water.
