We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) and encompasses various revival styles, often characterised by sturdy construction, rich dark woods like mahogany, and detailed craftsmanship.

Cabinet makers predominantly used solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, frequently employing traditional joinery techniques like dovetailing and mortise and tenon joints.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting hand-cut joint construction, natural timber ageing, oxidisation patterns, tool marks, and historical hardware consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing methods.

Pairing historical wooden furniture with minimalist decor, modern lighting, or abstract art creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that highlights the pieces craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
