We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Victorian writing desks emerged during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), characterized by diverse revivals of historical styles, sturdy proportions, and a shift towards functional home office furniture as literacy and administration expanded.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary woods like pine or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction and traditional turned or carved legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage appropriate to age, patination from decades of use, and traditional fixings rather than modern screws.

Pairing a dark wood antique desk with minimalist modern seating or contemporary lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and nourish the surface periodically with traditional beeswaxes rather than modern silicone polishes.
