FAQs

French antique tables from periods such as Louis XV or the 19th century typically feature refined proportions, balanced symmetry, and careful craftsmanship, often utilising native hardwoods like walnut.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid walnut or walnut veneers over secondary woods, utilising traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved elements, and turned supports.

Authenticity is identified through construction marks, hand-cut dovetails or joinery, natural timber ageing, traditional finish patination, and period-appropriate hardware or carving details.

An antique wooden table adds warmth and character to contemporary spaces when contrasted with minimalist upholstery, modern lighting, or neutral colour palettes.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
