A beautiful antique mahogany console / server table in the Georgian style. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1930’s.

The quality is outstanding, this is a great size and has three generous drawers which have fine, hand cut dovetailed joints, and are felt lined with cutlery dividers. There are lovely carved details on the edges, panelled drawer fronts with lovely brass lions head handles, and this has a cross banded top.

This is in superb condition for its age, we have just had it re-polished.

FAQs

Console and server tables gained prominence during the 17th and 18th centuries in European estates, designed initially as architectural fixtures or serving surfaces for dining rooms and grand hallways.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring joinery techniques such as dovetailing for drawers and hand-carved decorative elements.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct tool marks, hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and oxidised brass hardware rather than modern fixings.

A traditional console table anchors modern spaces by providing functional surface area and organic warmth, often contrasted with abstract art or minimalist lighting.

Preserve antique mahogany by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying periodic coats of natural beeswax, avoiding silicone-based polishes and direct sunlight.
