Regency ceramics, produced roughly between 1811 and 1820, are characterised by classical motifs, refined proportions, and an increasing use of vibrant enamel colours combined with heavy gilding, often reflecting influences from ancient Greece and Rome.

Potteries such as Spode utilised innovative ceramic bodies during this period, including felspar porcelain and bone china, which incorporated calcined bone ash or felspathic minerals to achieve a whiter, more translucent, and durable body.

Authentic pieces often feature painted pattern numbers, factory marks in red or purple enamel, or impressed marks on the base, alongside distinctive hand-gilded borders and finely potted bodies typical of early 19th-century manufacturing techniques.

Antique porcelain pieces can be displayed singly or in curated groupings within glass-fronted cabinets, on open shelving, or used as functional decorative accents on sideboards to introduce historical texture and metallic warmth to modern spaces.

Antique gilded ceramics should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using a mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding dishwashers and harsh scrubbing, which can permanently damage fragile hand-painted enamel and gold leaf.
