Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This unusual Victorian biscuit jar and cover dates from 1910 and consists of brown and off-white stoneware ceramic with a matte finish. The cylindrical body holds a matching lid topped with a small turned finial. White sprigged relief decoration on the side displays the inscribed lettering "ANTICIPATION" above a figural scene of a person sitting in a chair, set within an arched architectural panel. Pale blue accents outline the base beneath the figures, and relief patterns embellish the upper border near the lid. Raised ribbing circles the lid and the lower section of the base. Placement suits the top of a sideboard in a dining room or living space to hold biscuits or dry goods. The container measures 13 cm in height and 11 cm in width.

FAQs

Victorian Doulton stoneware refers to durable ceramic wares produced by the Doulton factory in Lambeth, London, during the nineteenth century. These pieces are celebrated for their salt-glazed finishes, relief decoration, and artistic craftsmanship.

These containers were wheel-thrown or slip-cast from dense clay and fired at high temperatures. Decorative elements were typically applied using relief spriggingpressing thin clay moulds onto the vessel before glazing and firing.

Authenticity is verified through impressed factory backstamps on the underside, including the Royal Doulton or Doulton Lambeth rosette marks, along with artist monograms and shape numbers.

A stoneware biscuit jar serves as a textural accent on a kitchen island, dining sideboard, or open shelving, pairing well with natural timber and modern neutral palettes.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Avoid submersion if raw unglazed stoneware is present, and never place antique ceramics in a dishwasher.
