FAQs

Victorian card tables gained popularity in the 19th century as essential items for drawing rooms, specifically designed to accommodate evening social pastimes like whist and chess.

Master craftsmen typically utilised solid secondary timbers like pine or mahogany as a structural base, applying highly figured veneers such as burr walnut or rosewood to the visible surfaces.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery methods, natural ageing of the timber, and the use of historic veneer application techniques rather than modern machinery.

Positioning the table against a wall in a living space with the top folded closed allows it to function as a striking console, while displaying curated decorative objects on the surface.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
