FAQs

The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, draws heavy inspiration from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquity, featuring clean lines, dark exotic woods, and restrained brass ornamentation.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, often embellished with contrasting stringing, marquetry, and crossbanding in lighter woods like satinwood and boxwood, supported by complex joinery.

Authentication relies on examining timber patination, hand-cut secondary woods, traditional hand-cut dovetails, genuine brass castors, and period-appropriate veneer thicknesses rather than machine-cut modern counterparts.

This piece functions effectively as a console against a wall or as a centre table in a study, pairing contrasting classical elements with minimalist modern upholstery to highlight its rich grain and historical form.

Preservation requires maintaining stable room humidity and temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources, supplemented only by occasional applications of microcrystalline wax to protect the polished wood surface.
