Edwardian furniture, spanning the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often looked back to 18th-century Sheraton and Hepplewhite designs, featuring lighter proportions, delicate inlay, and refined carving compared to heavy Victorian pieces.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly used dense hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, and walnut, frequently incorporating hand-carved details, fluted legs, and subtle line inlay.

Authenticity is identified through traditional joinery methods such as dovetailing in drawer construction, natural timber ageing, hand-cut screws, and consistent wear patterns appropriate for early 20th-century craftsmanship.

Balancing period pieces in a contemporary setting involves pairing the rich wood tones with minimalist ceramics, abstract art, or simple lighting to create a grounded, layered focal point.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying beeswax to nourish the wood grain.
