FAQs

Late Victorian furniture often drew inspiration from historical revivals, incorporating rich dark timbers such as walnut and mahogany, alongside intricate craftsmanship and functional versatility suited to domestic parlours and libraries.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense hardwoods like walnut and mahogany, employing traditional mortise and tenon joinery, hand-turned elements, and frequently integrating brass castors for mobility.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, natural timber oxidisation, hand-cut joinery, and consistent wear patterns along high-contact areas like legs and stretchers.

Such pieces serve as functional anchor points in modern schemes, offering warmth and historical contrast when paired with minimalist seating, neutral walls, and contemporary lighting.

Maintain antique timber by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain without building up harmful residue.
