This 18th-century Sheraton period sofa table is constructed from warm brown mahogany and satinwood with boxwood stringing, featuring a rectangular top with drop leaves, two inlaid drawers to the front, gilded circular handles, a central turned stretcher, and splayed legs with brass castors. The piece measures 73 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 68 cm deep, extending to 150 cm wide with the leaves open. In a modern home, this table sits naturally at the back of a sofa or serves as a console in a living room, hallway, or study. Its drop leaves allow the surface area to adjust easily for displaying decorative items, holding lamps, or providing a convenient writing space.

A Sheraton period sofa table is a late eighteenth or early nineteenth-century design, typically characterised by a long, narrow mahogany top with two hinged drop leaves, frieze drawers, and splayed end-supports connected by a stretcher.

These tables were primarily crafted from fine mahogany or satinwood, often featuring contrasting boxwood and rosewood crossbanding, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and brass castors with matching brass handles.

Authentic pieces display hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut drawer dovetails, original brass castors with light oxidisation, and natural age-related patina or shrinkage splits along the grain.

Place the table directly behind a free-standing sofa, in a formal hallway, or beneath a window to function as an occasional writing desk or display console.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax paste once or twice a year, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent wood movement.
