Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Georgian clay pipe stand is constructed from warm brown mahogany and polished brass. The design incorporates a slender turned central column topped with a small ball finial, rising from a rectangular base fitted with a single drawer featuring a pale round pull handle. The base is finished with beaded mouldings along the top and bottom edges and stands on four low block feet. A circular brass gallery ring supported by the central column holds two long clay pipes in place above a brass liner. The piece displays a rich, original patination with visible signs of age across the wood surfaces. Measuring 55 cm high, 21.5 cm wide, and 16.5 cm deep, this compact accessory suits placement on a desk, sideboard, or side table within a study, office, or gentleman's library. It functions as a specialised display stand for storing vintage smoking pipes and small desk accessories.

FAQs

Historically, clay pipe stands were designed to hold long-stemmed clay or churchwarden pipes safely upright between uses. They often formed part of a gentlemans tabletop smoking service alongside tobacco jars and accessories.

Pipe stands were traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, frequently trimmed with cast or polished brass galleries and lead-lined lower compartments.

Authentic period pipe stands feature hand-turned central columns, original brass securing fittings, hand-dovetailed base drawers, and genuine wear patterns along the timber base and brass surfaces.

An antique pipe stand serves as a distinctive sculptural accent on a library desk, bookshelf, or sideboard, offering historic texture when paired with contemporary art or framed prints.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax periodically along the mahogany surface, while taking care to avoid harsh chemicals on the natural brass patina.
