FAQs

Demi lune, or half-moon, tables gained prominence during the late 18th century in neoclassical designs and experienced revival periods throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, often used as serving or display surfaces in formal reception rooms.

These pieces typically feature a solid or veneered timber framework, such as mahogany, enhanced with contrasting marquetry or stringing using exotic woods like satinwood, boxwood, and ebony.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery methods, natural oxidisation in the wood, and the precision of the inlaid details, which show subtle irregularities absent in modern reproductions.

Place the flat edge flush against a hallway or living room wall beneath a statement mirror, styling the surface minimally with a ceramic vase or brass decorative object to balance its ornate woodwork.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and occasionally applying high-grade beeswax to nourish the wood surface.
