Description

A smart and very well made antique French walnut side / coffee table, dating from around the 1930’s.

The quality is outstanding, this has a lovely and versatile design. It has a long slim shape and is finished identically on all sides, it could be used as a coffee table or as a side table against a wall. It is a good height and shape to put a TV on, the lower rattan tier is a very useful feature.

It stands on fluted legs, the top edge is beautifully cross banded in Santos rosewood, which does not require a CITES or article 10.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a high standard, the condition is excellent for its age. There is just some minor wear, a few small bumps and marks remaining beneath the polish here and there, commensurate for age.

Width – 48 inches , 122 cm

Depth – 16 inches , 41 cm

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French walnut furniture gained prominence during the Renaissance and continued through the Louis XIV and subsequent periods, celebrated for the woods rich grain and malleability for intricate carving.

Master cabinetmakers typically utilised solid walnut and walnut veneers, often combining mortise and tenon joinery with hand-turned elements and woven cane lower shelves for textural contrast.

Authentication involves inspecting the timber for period-appropriate hand-cut joinery, natural oxidation patterns in the wood, and historical wear consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

Pair the warm tones of the timber with contemporary minimalist seating or neutral textiles to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and clean, modern aesthetics.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and applying occasional natural beeswax polish to nourish the grain.
