Wine tables, also known as occasional or tripod tables, emerged during the 18th century to hold glasses and decanters during social gatherings in formal drawing rooms.

These pieces typically feature solid secondary woods veneered with decorative burr walnut, joined with traditional mortise and tenon joinery and supported by a turned central pillar with tripod legs.

Authenticity is assessed through the grain patterns of the walnut veneer, hand-cut joinery, patination of the wood, and signs of age such as minor shrinkage and hand-applied finishes.

Position it beside a sofa or in an empty corner as an accent surface to introduce warmth, texture, and historical contrast to contemporary spaces.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically treat the surface with a quality beeswax to nourish the antique polish.
