FAQs

Originating in France during the 1910s and peaking globally in the 1920s and 1930s, Art Deco embraced sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and luxurious materials such as burr walnut and chrome, reflecting modernism and technological progress.

Craftsmen typically utilised solid hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, and oak, frequently embellished with decorative wood veneers such as burr walnut. Construction involved traditional joinery methods combined with innovative mechanical hinges for folding and transforming pieces.

Authentic pieces are characterised by distinct geometric silhouettes, symmetric book-matched or burr veneers, minimalist hardware, and expert craftsmanship visible in the joinery and folding mechanisms without modern fixings.

An Art Deco console serves as a striking focal point when paired with minimalist modern seating, neutral walls to highlight the wood grain, and sleek metallic or glass accessories that complement the eras sophisticated aesthetic.

Maintain walnut furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally nourish the timber using traditional beeswax polish.
