Victorian burr walnut furniture is characterised by the use of highly figured walnut veneer sourced from tree growths, typically featuring intricate marquetry and polished finishes popular during the 19th century.

These tables typically utilise a solid secondary wood such as pine or mahogany as a base, overlaid with decorative burr walnut veneers, and feature a birdcage or tilting mechanism atop a turned pillar and tripod base.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut screws, natural ageing of the timber and veneer, and traditional shellac polish rather than modern synthetic finishes.

Position the table next to a contemporary sofa or in an empty corner to provide functional surface space while introducing warm wood tones, rich grain patterns, and historic character to a room.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber and protect the polish.
