Description

A wonderful antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany occasional side table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1910 period.

It is of very fine quality, the top has a beautiful shape with lovely sweeping serpentine shaped edges. The top has satin wood cross banding around the edge, there is also satin wood banding that runs down the front of all the legs and around the edge of the lower tier.

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter and less ornate than Victorian pieces, drawing inspiration from earlier 18th-century Sheraton and Chippendale designs.

These pieces typically utilized fine hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, and walnut, frequently enhanced with intricate marquetry, stringing, and mother-of-pearl inlay.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails where applicable, natural timber ageing, and subtle imperfections consistent with hand-craftsmanship rather than modern mass production.

Pairing historical wooden pieces with modern seating or minimalist decor creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship of the antique without overwhelming the space.

Maintain the wood by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive moisture, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the grain and preserve the finish.
